These days I would agree with you, but back in the days where states were super far apart and less developed, it was a lot easier to transfer a states 1-55 elector votes than it was to transfer thousands/hundreds of thousands of the popular vote. These days its much more convenient. Definitely a dated system. edit: Just a heads up, I'm aware that there were many reasons why the founding fathers chose the electoral college over a popular vote system. Honestly just getting kind of tiresome and sad. My dad (1943-2020) spent his entire life calling the US a 'Banana Republic' saying that for all the good they did in ww2, everything that followed was cultural imperialism and what not.
