The US has destroyed the education system. This is very intentional. I left my decade long teaching career because the low pay and constant harassment (physical attacks from parents, verbal attacks from administration, sexual harassment from students-- all of which went unpunished) destroyed my mental health to the point that I don't think I'll completely recover. My experience is common. They pay educators shit (with rare exceptions) and blame us for everything that's wrong with "this generation". The vast majority of educators do not teach long enough to retire. Most new teachers leave the profession within the first 5 years.

Honestly just getting kind of tiresome and sad. My dad (1943-2020) spent his entire life calling the US a 'Banana Republic' saying that for all the good they did in ww2, everything that followed was cultural imperialism and what not.
