The two party system is in place because it is most effective way to win elections. You can't keep people from trying to team up. We do not have a parliamentary style legislature so it is virtually impossible for more than two parties to be effective at any given time. Political parties exist because organization wins. I am well aware of IRV. Even then it still leads to two dominant parties it just allows third party voters to actually participate in the election without throwing their vote away. Parliamentary elections are the only way to actually have real third party representation beyond the two major parties as they may start slightly catering to third party voters more in IRV.

Honestly just getting kind of tiresome and sad. My dad (1943-2020) spent his entire life calling the US a 'Banana Republic' saying that for all the good they did in ww2, everything that followed was cultural imperialism and what not.
